Sun Joe SPX3000 vs. SPX4000: Which Pressure Washer Should You Choose?

Pressure washers are quite versatile tools that can help you clean various things, including driveways, porches, outdoor furniture, your car, or even your house.

One of the best brands on the market is Sun Joe. They’ve specialized in outdoor and gardening tools since 2004, so they know what they’re doing.

And their electric-powered pressure washers are some of the most famous of these tools. They make affordable, top-notch pressure washers.

In this article, I’ll be comparing between two of their best products: the Sun Joe SPX3000 and the SPX4000.

Sun Joe SPX3000 vs. SPX4000 – Full Comparison

Motor and Power

When it comes to the motor and power, there’s not much of a difference between the two models. They’re both equipped with 14.5 amp motors and 1,800 volts.

They can deliver pressure up to 2,030 PSI (pressure per square inch) and 1.76 GPM (gallons per minute).

The combination of high PSI levels and low GPM produces more efficient water blasts and reduces water use.

Although they’re not the most powerful motors found on pressure washers, they’re good enough for home-use and outdoor cleaning.

5 Quick-Connect Nozzle Spray

The nozzles are also similar in both the SPX3000 and SPX4000. Each comes with a 0°-nozzle to produce highly concentrated blasts of water to remove grime and a 15°-nozzle for a less concentrated stream to cover wider areas. Moreover, they also have a 25°-nozzle that suits sidewalks and driveways where there are oil spills and dirt, and a 40° that works for gentle surfaces and windows as it’s less concentrated and covers a wider area.

Finally, they have detergent nozzles for shooting bubbles from the built-in detergent tanks.

Detergent Tank

This model comes with two 30 fl. oz. detergent tanks. This is to enable you to use soaps of different viscosity detergent to suit a wider range of cleaning tasks.

Sometimes, you need watered-down soap in order not to strip the paint on your car if it’s not too dirty. For deeper cleaning, however, you can use thicker concentration.

This model is equipped with a single built-in 54.1 fl. oz. detergent tank.

You can’t use different thicknesses of soaps for different tasks, but you can definitely finish longer jobs with no problem.

And in all cases, a single tank for all types of soaps is fine if you’re not thinking about launching a professional car wash.

This model weighs around 31 pounds after assembly, so it’s pretty maneuverable and portable.

The SPX4000 is even more portable at 27.8 pounds. It isn’t much of a difference, but a few pounds can reduce the strain on your arms and back from carrying the unit around.

Then again, this model comes with wheels that enable you to move the unit very easily and conveniently.

Pressure Select Technology

With the SPX3000, you’ll only be able to blast water at a single high speed (up to 2,030 PSI) as there’s no variable speed dial or switch.

While you can control the water pressure a little by pulling the trigger slightly and slowly, it’s a very difficult way to operate.

The quick-connect nozzles do help in providing wide-spread and lower pressure streams of water.

The great thing about the SPX4000 is that it comes with pressure select technology. This feature enables you to adjust the speed and power of delivery.

On the low gear, you’ll get 1,450 PSI that suits cleaning everyday grime and dirt.

On the other hand, you can use the high gear (2,030 PSI) for more stubborn tasks like cleaning oil spills on the driveway.

Hose Reel

When it’s time to store either of the two models, you’ll have to manually reel in the hose to get rid of any sloppiness and extra floor space.

Safety Lock Switch

Both pressure washers come with Sun Joe’s proprietary safety lock switches that are located on the trigger.

When the machine’s trigger isn’t engaged, it will automatically shut off. This is a great feature that makes these budget-friendly pressure washers energy- and water-efficient.

Moreover, it extends the durability of the units to allow you to enjoy their operation for an even longer time.

Final Thoughts

It’s evident that there are some overlapping features between the Sun Joe SPX3000 and SPX4000. And the reason to select one over the other may be a little hard to see.

But to sum it up, if you’re looking for more versatile operation in terms of the detergent and soap you can use, go for the SPX3000.However, if you want the more portable option with the variety of pressure levels to have more control over the kinds of jobs you can do, I’d recommend the SPX4000.
